Pledge as a way of securing obligations in roman law in comparison with modern civil legislation

The basis of modern civil law is Roman law. Common features can be traced both in the general provisions and principles of law, as well as in individual institutions of property, obligation, and inheritance law. This article will consider such a way of securing obligations as collateral. In Roman law, collateral was considered one of the important institutions that allowed solving issues related to the enforcement of obligations, which became the basis for the subsequent development of collateral in other legal systems, for example, in modern Russian civil law.
