The defect of the epiphyseal ends of canine bones, forming the knee, was filled experimentally by the technique of monolocal compression-and-distraction osteosynthesis. After resection of femoral and tibial articular ends the fragments were brought closer up to their contact, compression was produced at the docking site during 5 days and after that the limb length was restored applying distraction by 1 mm per day. Fixation of the limb lengthened - 30-60 days. After the device removal the animals were observed for the period up to 180 days. Roentgenologic, morphologic and hemodynamic investigations of the limb operated on were made at all stages of the experiment. The results obtained showed that stable fixation and subsequent adequate distraction with the device created optimal conditions for the reparative process of bone tissue.
