Protection of police officers’ honour, dignity and business reputation

In the process of performing their duties related to the protection of public order and maintaining public security, police officers often face not only the immediate threat to life and health, but also the facts of discrediting their honour, dignity and business reputation. Taking into account the existing facts of discrediting police officers and the need to protect their honour and dignity, a departmental normative legal act regulating the organization of protection of honour and dignity, as well as business reputation in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, was issued. Despite the public nature of the activity, police officers have equal rights with other citizens when they try to defend their honour and dignity in court. The protection of honour, dignity, business reputation, based on constitutional provisions is carried out through civil law proceedings. As for the business reputation of a law enforcement officer it is a complex, purposeful activity involving work with personnel, the formation of a positive image of a policeman, which implies publicity and openness of the police activity, as well as the support given to an officer when he applies to the court for the protection of honour, dignity and business reputation.
