Zeugma as a language figure of cross-level nature

The article considers zeugma as a cross-level feature of figurative language. The author claims that the phenomenon of zeugma is that it is neither fixed at any level of the language, nor belongs to any of its forms, oral or written. Given the nature of the common component of zeugma and the peculiarities of the elements connected with it, three varieties of the zeugma are distinguished: lexico-syntactic, segment, or morphemic, and graphic.
