The article discusses the genre of comics in the emigrant weekly "Illustrated Russia" (Paris, 1924-1939). The article examines the relationship between verbal and iconic components in comics. The author identifies genre features and its varieties, defines the communicative possibilities of the genre, and considers the comic as a creolized text.
