The genre of the montage novel in literary studies

The article reads about the existing literary studies on the genre of the montage novel (Montageroman) and about the peculiarities of foreign and Russian investigations into this topic. The object of my analysis is only those investigations which shed light on the problem of the invariant of the genre. Attention is also given to the instances when the examples of the montage novel are assigned to other genres and when the montage novel is considered in wide contexts: in the history of art movements and the relationships between the poetics of cinema and literature.
