Women of the north: social activity in everyday life of local communities in Yakutia

The paper deals with the social activity of women in the multinational Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The preliminary results of the 2018 field studies are analyzed. New materials are compared with the Soviet and post-Soviet research. The author highlights the decreasing interest of women in social activity and defocus on gender and women issues in local communities. The daily engagement of women in the social life of the settlements is considered. The paper presents the characteristics of gender presentations in communities involved in different household activities. The study reveals interesting phenomena describing the social activity of women in settlements with different ethnic composition. In aboriginal communities, women's social and political activism is primarily characterized by the representation of ethnic interests.
