Abuse, violence in old age and the ways to overcome them

The paper presents the results of a survey of social workers at the social service centers on the possible causes, forms, ways of overcoming abuse and violence in old age. The relevance and novelty of this issue are determined by the fact that the problem is growing, but there are no sufficient studies in this regard. The relationships of abuse and violence with ageism, i.e. age discrimination, and gerontophobia are shown. The psychological, physical, financial, domestic and other types of violence and abuse are defined. The study identifies personal and interpersonal aspects of the problem and the impact of the status of the elderly in society on their treatment by others and relatives. Abuse and violence by elderly people are described. The research emphasizes the need for a high professionalism of social workers when solving the problem under review.
