Based on a number of archival materials, periodicals and other sources, the article discusses the living conditions of young workers of the Buryat-Mongol Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic during the period of industrialization of the national economy. The study of this problem seems to be interesting scientifically, since it is the workers who belong to the social group whose lifestyle is decisive for an industrial society. Their situation and living conditions clearly demonstrate the majority of problems and difficulties in the development of the working class in 1920-1930. Therefore, the main attention of the author is drawn to the causes and methods of solving the housing problem, the activities of the authorities in providing food and organizing sanitary and hygienic services. At the end, it is concluded that the process of forced industrialization was carried out at the expense of labor heroism and material deprivation. Housing construction did not keep pace with the growth of the urban population and the overwhelming number of industrial giants arriving at construction sites (PVRZ, Glass factory, Meat-packing factory) had to put up with difficult living conditions. Some could not stand it and returned home. And those who were able to adapt became new citizens.
