The life and views of Johan Gabler

The article is dedicated to the life and views of Johann Philip Gabler (1753-1826), a German protestant liberal theologian, whose works have shaped the modern approach to biblical theology as a field of research that considers the teachings of the Bible in their historical development. The publication includes a translation into Russian of Gabler’s most famous text - his speech “On the Proper Distinction between Biblical and Dogmatic Theology and the Specific Objectives of Each”, which became the guiding text for biblical studies, a biographic preface, and commentaries to some passages of his speech.
