This article is discussed the versatility of the tale and its impact on society. The working data will allow extending the abstract concept of the tale phenomenon and its specificity. Particular attention is given to socialization and cognitive functions of the tale. The tale is not just a literary work or the product of oral folk arts, and it contains many explicit and implicit meanings, reflecting the rituals, folkways, rules of morality and value orientations of previous generations which are the basis of life. It can rightly be called the treasury of the morality of humankind. This article is rejected the irrational aspect of the tale. The need for continued, enhanced studding of the tale has been identified and justified.
