The meaning of proper names as a linguistic problem

The article reveals the positions of various researchers on the problem of the meaning of proper names, which can be reduced to three main ones: the position of asemanticity, the position of semanticity and the position combining the properties of the first two ones. The features of the semantics of onims in the traditional opposition "onim - appellative" are shown as a complex multicomponent phenomenon, which is based on a comparison of the level of semantic fullness of the named units.
