PD-1 is a member of the family of CD28 and immunosuppressive receptors that are expressed on the surfaces of activated T and B cells. This receptor can bind to its ligands, PD-L1 and PD-L2, to effectively reduce the immune response of the involved immune T cells. Tumor cells avoid immune surveillance inside the body due to the high expression of PD-L1. The interaction between PD1 and PD-L1 can be blocked to apparently improve the activity of CD8 + cytotoxic T cells in relation to the destruction of tumor cells.
