The morphofunctional state of the spinal cord part, which is cranial to the zone of damage within the adjacent segment, has been studied on the model of spinal cord hemisection and partial destruction of the posterior support structures of the lumbar spine in 18 adult mongrel dogs. The experiment lasted for up to 3 months. The following methods of study were used: neurohistological, computer morphometry, statistic. The destructive process has been established to manifest itself most of all under the spine instability, particularly in the zone of gray substance of the spinal cord damaged, thereby making it impossible to recover functions. Under the conditions of controlled transosseous osteosynthesis the destruction of spinal cord structures is minimal, determining the possibility of function recovery after half transverse sectioning. The quantitative estimation of the destructive process manifestation under the conditions mentioned is given.
