The importance of introducing a digital passport in Russia

The article discusses the importance of introducing a digital passport in Russia. By decree of September 18, 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a digital passport in Russia. The head of state equated a digital copy of the passport and other documents on Public Services to the original media. The difficulty lies in the fact that in a survey of the population, about 44% of Russians categorically opposed the introduction of a digital passport as a replacement for the paper original. The process of introducing a digital passport in Russia launched in 2022, stopped in the summer of that year for various reasons. In 2023, they returned to the introduction of a digital passport in Russia, which turned out to be urgent in the conditions of digitalization. The change from the original plan consists only in one thing - a digital copy of the original paper passport is not its complete replacement, but is inferior in value to it.
