Signs and images on bone weaponry in the early Mesolithic age of the Volga-Oka interfluve

Бесплатный доступ

In the Early Mesolithic Age of the Volga-Oka interfluve various signs and geometrical images occur on different weapons made from bone: arrowheads, spearheads, javelins, hunting knives and daggers. Simple signs and images that decorate the item and can be also used as a personal mark are the most numerous. Sophisticated geometric images, made in a distinctive style each, are not so common. These images can be seen on daggers and hunting knives, whereas simple signs and images are more characteristic for arrowheads. At the same time, some arrowheads and spearheads noted for carefulness of treatment and sophisticated geometric images should be singled out. Considering the context of the find, we can assume that, in some cases, these objects were not intended for everyday use.
