Zoologists of Buryat State University in faces: portraits of the researchers of Baikal Siberia

The article describes the contribution of scientists-zoologists the oldest Department of the Buryat State University - zoology and ecology - from its creation to nowadays in the development of different zoological research areas in the Baikal region. As history shows, teachers studied of different groups of animals - protozoa, aquatic animals, amphibians and reptiles, farm animals. However, the priority areas of scientific activity of the Department were and remain research, first of all, in the area of ornithology and entomology, continues to study the environmental aspects of the physiology of digestion of birds and mammals, rare and endangered species of animals, maintaining the Red Book of Buryatia. There have always been problems of studying fauna, ecology and animal protection. The achievements of teachers and staffs in 85-year history of the Department are shows, the prospects of its development are defined.
