120 years since the birth of academician G. A. Ostrogorskiy (preface to the publication)

The article is an expanded version of the report presented on January 20, 2022 during the round table, organized by the “Byzantine Cabinet”, and devoted to the 120th anniversary of Georgiy Aleksandrovich Ostrogorskiy (1902-1976), the outstanding Byzantine scholar of the twentieth century. The article presents the main milestones of the scholar’s biography and characterizes his personality and works.
