A monograph of Olga V. Spachil’ «A. P. Chekhov and Kuban» was published in Krasnodar in 2018. The reviewer considers the book as a mini-encyclopedia in topic chosen by author. It is noted that the granularity of the composition of the book due to the multi-objective approach of Olga Spachil’. The purposes of the monograph are to reveal the biographical, mythopoetic and other sources of the writer's ideas about the Kuban region; to summarize information about the stay of persons who had family name Chekhov (not only direct relatives of the writer) on the territory of the pre-revolutionary Kuban region and the Black Sea province; to show the attitude of the local intelligentsia to the creativity and personality of Anton Chekhov. The author uses works by Leo Tolstoy, Maxim Gorky and other writers, contemporaries of Chekhov, as a background for analysis. The review describes the aspects of novelty and the importance of this monograph for the literary local history of the South of Russia.
