The article examines the problems of adaptation of the elderly in an urban environment through the prism of the everyday life sociology. The importance of the urban environment for maintaining sustainable and reproducible practices, characterized by low visibility, but playing a significant role in maintaining the stability of the social functioning of an elderly person, is stated. The developing environment of a modern city is designed to help reduce the vulnerability of older people, as well as provide older people with a “system of opportunities” for self-realization, consumption, and communication. At the same time, the development of the urban environment cannot be considered in isolation from the processes of digitalization, including those affecting the elderly. The results of sociological research demonstrate the value of walking distance to necessary facilities that are environmentally friendly, however, even with the humanization of the urban environment, uncertainty may periodically increase, disrupting the stable reproduction of everyday practices. The vector of urban environment development for the elderly is effectively considered along the line of “displacement - ecology - consumption - self-realization”. With increasing accessibility of urban infrastructure, the daily practices of older people are transformed into higher-level practices and become practices for maintaining individuality and diversity in the self-realization of older people.
