The article is based on the comparative analysis of the texts of English and Russian folk tales and addresses the strategy and methods of adapted translation as the most relevant, often the only acceptable way to translate texts of folk tales. The examples given in the article show that the adapted translation of the English folk tale into Russian allows us to provide the translated text with an ethnolanguage authenticity of the Russian folk tale. The authors state the method of adaptive transcoding as the main method of adapted translation, a necessary condition for the implementation of which is to preserve the specified amount and nature of information transmitted from the source language. The authors note that the most desirable and significant results of the adaptive transcoding method can be obtained on the basis of comparative frame analysis.
