Actualization of multiple taxis: syncretism of meanings (on the material of the German language)

This article discusses the issue of actualization of the categorial meanings of multiple taxis (iterative, multiplicative, and distributive) in modern German. The aim of the work is to describe various syncretic iterative-taxis, multiplicative-taxis and distributive-taxis categorial meanings of simultaneity and non-simultaneity in statements with iterative and multiplicative deverbatives. In the course of the study, such methods as hypothetical-deductive, inductive, descriptive, contextual, as well as the method of generalization and interpretation of linguistic material were used. The material of the study was 6000 statements obtained by directed sampling from the electronic database of the Leipzig Corpus and the German Electronic Dictionary. The study revealed that the updated values of the multiple taxis are characterized by syncretism due to various diagnostic indicators of iteration and multiplication. These include, first of all, deverbative-iteratives and deverbativemultiplicatives, as well as such additional iterative indicators as iterative adverbials and attributes. The conjugation of iterative-taxis, multiplicative-taxis and distributive meanings is indicated by the subjective and objective plurality of verbs.
