This article discusses the features of the transition of universities to distance learning that have emerged in our time. There are differences in the activities of teachers and tutors, as well as the feasibility of supplementing the functions of a Russian University teacher with tutors. A specific example shows the features, problems and advantages of implementing training using distance learning technologies in the main types of classes. The necessity of reviewing the time frame of the work of the teaching staff is justified. The necessary competencies of the teacher in modern conditions are defined. Recommendations are given on the organization of the process of professional development.
