Relevance of the institute of witnesses in criminal proceedings

The article is devoted to the study of the problems of participation of witnesses in the production of investigative actions. The author analyzes the criminal procedural foundations of using the institution of witnesses in investigative actions, articles of the criminal procedural law providing for various options for the participation of these persons. At the same time, various points of view regarding the preservation of the institution of witnesses in the Russian criminal procedure law were investigated. Attention is drawn to the procedure for using technical means of fixation as an analogue of the procedure for attracting witnesses. The author comes to the conclusion that it is necessary to preserve cases of procedural participation of witnesses in the production of certain investigative actions.
