Current issues of integrating a professional component into the teaching of foreign languages to engineering students

The paper justifies the necessity of engineering students' training to perform professional communication in a foreign language. Despite the fact that content and language integrated learning has recently become very important in teaching foreign languages at technical universities, putting this approach into practice causes a number of difficulties. The paper considers the concept of content and language integrated learning and highlights some aspects of designing English language learning content based on CLIL. The author concludes that the choice of topics and communicative situations should be determined by the professionally oriented direction of learning. The interaction of language and professional components is illustrated by examples reflecting modern requirements for engineering education. The paper describes communicative exercises in which the study of language units is based on the research of natural mechanisms as a model for creating innovative engineering solutions.
