Проблема прогнозирования течения алкогольной болезни печени не разработана. Возможность прогноза заболевания по морфологии ограничена в связи с недостатками биопсии печени. Незначительное число исследований посвящено лабораторным методам. Обсуждаемая в литературе прогностическая значимость сывороточных маркеров фиброзирования печени касается последней цирротической стадии.
