Topical issues of the legal status of the state as a participant of international private law

This article examines topical issues of the legal status of the state as a participant in private international law. Particular attention is paid to the criteria for distinguishing between actions of exercising sovereign functions from actions that are performed for commercial purposes. The main provisions of the theories of absolute and limited immunity of a foreign state are considered.
