Alcohol dependence in women

This article is devoted to the detailed review of the most relevant literature data describing the issue of female alcoholism. An important place in the work is occupied by an analysis of the genetic causes of the development of alcohol dependence in women, as well as the effect of emancipation on the growth of alcoholism. A detailed description of the course of the disease in women is given, depending on age, availability of a partner, children and work, not only in Russia but also abroad. The differences between female and male alcoholism are described in detail. Special attention is given to the influence of alcoholic husbands in relation to the occurrence of addiction in the wife. The problem of stigmatization of female alcoholism and its negative consequences for the timely detection of the disease and the most effective treatment are considered. An analysis is made of the personality change of a patient with alcohol dependence. Also examined the variety of negative and positive prognosis in terms of rehabilitation and approaches to the treatment of alcohol dependence in women are listed.
