Narrative's allegory (on icono-graphic motif in I. A. Bunin's "Suhodol")

The article deals with the iconographic motif and its transformation in the structure of the fictional text. The icon of St. martyr Mercurius of Smolensk is a visual and semantic dominant in I. Bunin’s story Suhodol. The version of Bunin’s realism is an integrating ability of memory, which determines both the non-linear character of narration and its fragmentation. The art of memory (ars memoria) turns into a conceptual status and acts as a strategy of view/writing.
