Analysis of English terminological word combinations (based on basic terms in the domain of economics)

The article analyses English terminological word combinations in the domain of economics. Terminological word combinations include English basic economy terms which constitute the basis of economics as a science and which serve as elements for the basic term work in the studied terminological system. English basic terms in the domain of economics are examined as a set of nominative units which denote special notions of economics as the field of knowledge. Every component of the terminological word combinations has its definite place in the structure of the word combination and carries out the individual nominative function expressing one or another complex notion. The units of the terminological word combination combine with each other and acquire the new syntactic status being formed of not more than two components according to English syntax rules and one of the components of the word combination is always semantically dominant. The terminological word combinations in this paper are represented by two-, three- or four-component units composed of nouns, adjectives, participles of the present and past tenses. This paper focuses on basic terms where the noun is the principal component of the word combination. The results of this research can be applied in the courses of lectures on translation, terminology and for those studying English.
