Analysis of discourse in the tradition of the French school

This article is devoted to the analysis of the French traditional discourse. The article examines the history and current situation of discursive analysis in the French-speaking environment. Two opposite formations of E. Benveniste are given, based on the use of the present, the current tense in conversation in the case of discourse and the past tense in the case of historical narrative. The discursive situation and its connection with some related subjects are analyzed. The concepts related to the process of utterance (modality, subjectivity, intertextuality and others) are mentioned.
