Hematological effects of erythropoietin in dialysed patients with chronic renal failure

The investigation deals with analysis of hematological effect of erythropoietin in dialysed patients with chronic renal failure. Dialysis was performed 2 days a week for 5 hours with "Fresenius 4008H" apparatus, Kt/v 1,37 ±0,06. Erythropoietin ("Eprex', Janssen Silag AG, Switzerland) was administered i.v. 2 times a week in overall dose of 16000 IU. It was confirmed that erythropoietin is able to increase Hb, hematocrit and mean erythrocyte volume, thus leading to partial correction of anemia. Erythropoietin efficiency was not related to dialysis frequency and length, overall count of dialyses, origin of renal failure. Erythropoietin failed to influence leucocyte and platelet parameters.
