The study is devoted to the analysis of the problem of 'working poverty’ in modern scientific literature. It focuses on the gender aspect of 'working poverty. In the research the analysis, synthesis, comparison and generalization of data from sociological and economic studies in the framework of this problem are used. The analysis of the scientific literature has shown that modern researchers, in addition to general institutional and methodological issues, are interested in the physical and mental health of the working poor, their socio-demographic composition. In the works of authors from various countries, the trend towards the feminization of 'working poverty’ can be traced. At the same time, this phenomenon has regional specificity. Thus, in developing countries and countries with developed economies, that are attractive to migrants, low wages of women are associated with their low qualifications, while in Russia the level of women’s wages, despite the fact that they have a higher level of professional education, is significantly lower than the level of men’s wages.
