Analyzing the hermeneutic potential of Pierre Bourdieu’s postnon-classical sociology

The article is devoted to the justification of hermeneutic approach in modern postnon-classical sociology on the example of Pierre Bourdieu’s scientific heritage. Hermeneutical principles and methods of development and analysis of such concepts as “social field”, “habitus” and “symbolic violence” are analyzed. It is emphasized that the category of social field in P. Bourdieu’s sociological theory is characterized by the interaction of subject and symbolic. The hermeneutic aspect of the development of this category is achieved by the inclusion of subjects’ dispositions, symbolic context of interaction, unconscious aspects of behavior into the subject field of research. The scientist’s interpretation of the concept of habitus includes such aspects as the ability to endow a person with the ability to decode and interpret the stimuli of the surrounding social field and to build a hierarchy of opportunities when constructing life strategies. Developing the categories of symbolic power and symbolic violence on the example of analyzing the educational system, P. Bourdieu demonstrates the position of a researcher who is both within and outside the social field, which determines the use of hermeneutic strategies of introspection, dialog, and interpretation of opposing positions. The high level of relevance of P. Bourdieu’s theory to the implementation and development of the possibilities of the hermeneutic approach in the methodological field of modern sociology is highlighted.
