Analysis of the effects of mesh orientation when solving problems of multiphase flow by using the finite element method

The influence of the orientation effect of a finite element mesh is considered in solving problems of multiphase filtration using a special mathematical model based on the use of the finite element method, explicit calculation of the pressure field, and a special computational scheme for calculating saturations. A computational experiment was carried out on a model of a real high-viscosity oil field in the Republic of Tatarstan, consisting of several layers and several dozen operating wells. The results obtained show that the described scheme for modeling the filtration process using the finite element method is not affected by the orientation of the finite element mesh.
