The article analyzes the existing methodological approaches to assessing the effectiveness of small and medium-sized businesses and the effectiveness of public administration in this area. The authors propose a systematization of approaches based on several criteria, and formulate the basic principles for evaluating the effectiveness of state support for the development of SMEs.
