The article considers the problem of taking into account the peculiarities of the functioning of sound units in the phonetic system of the native language during the analysis of a foreign accent in Russian speech. It is noted that the positional rules of the sound system of the native language are an important factor in the emergence of signifi cant and stable deviations in the Russian speech of foreigners: they are consistently transferred to the studied language, if there are appropriate conditions for this. It has been established that errors of a “positional” nature are very frequent and are among the most stable; the impact of positional rules of the sound system of the native language can cause the appearance of “exotic” sounds in a foreign accent, alien to the phonetic system of the studied language. An analysis of errors caused by the transfer of positional rules of consonantism and vocalism of the native language in the Russian speech of students from Greece is presented. The linguodidactic prospects for studying the “positional” accent are highlighted, associated with the use of its results to improve the eff ectiveness of teaching Russian pronunciation to foreigners.
