One of the existing options for non-hormonal menopausal therapy is the use of phytoestrogens. However, it should be noted that phytoestrogens in low doses have practically no effect on climacteric symptoms, and in large doses mimic the effect of estrogens, and this may have undesirable effects inherent in hormone therapy, which is especially dangerous in women with a history of breast cancer.A special place among the means of non-hormonal therapy is occupied by preparations based on extracts of the cimicifuga racemosa plant. The plant substances contained in the rhizome extract of the racemose cimicifuga do not bind to estrogen receptors and lack estrogenic effects on breast and uterine cancer cells. At the same time, they reduce the frequency of hot flushes and are able to counteract the development of osteoporosis. The clinical impact of Cimicifuga racemosa is realized through dopaminergic, noradrenergic, serotonergic and GABA-ergic effects.
