The article is devoted to the analysis of the development of the transport complex of the Russian Federation, its role and importance in the socio-economic development of the country. The features of the functioning and the main indicators of the development of all types of transport in the country, including rail, road, air and water transport, are considered. The paper focuses on the challenges faced by the transport system in the context of budget cuts and the impact of international sanctions.
