Crime can be described as a violation of law and order. The forms of crime in the country depend on the nature of criminal law, socio-economic characteristics, traditional way of life, etc. Since ancient times, people have been looking for the causes of crime, trying to explain the motives prompting people to commit illegal actions. For society, it is not only the occurrence of criminal actions that are dangerous, but also their consequences. As a rule, violence gives rise to violence, which leads to an increase in the level of crime, and can cover many spheres of human life, harming both the interests of individual citizens and communities of people, regions. We investigated the influence of the main socio-economic determinants on the dynamics of the crime rate in the Chelyabinsk region: unemployment, income inequality, population migration. Conclusions were made about the relationship between the degree of influence of socio-economic determinants and the level of crime. Since the main method of combating crime is the prevention of illegal actions, it was concluded that it is necessary to study the impact of the impact of socio-economic determinants on the crime rate in order to influence them with the help of social and legal instruments, and further improvement of legal regulation should be carried out taking into account the changes taking place in society.
