English phraseological synonyms

The given article describes a somewhat different classification of the phraseological synonyms. An additional class - diverse component synonyms - is introduced. Apart from morphosyntactic structure phraseological synonyms have other structures. They have a multilevel organization which corresponds to the language hierarchy: the content plane (phraseological meaning), the expression plane (lexical level, phonetic level). A phraseological unit has a separate structure at each of these levels. These structures are interrelated and form the total structure of phraseological units. The correlation of English phraseological units is clearly represented by frame scripts. The English phraseological synonyms are considered from the viewpoint of uniform and diverse figurativeness as well as uniform and diverse explication. This article deals with similarity and differences of phraseological correlates and synonyms. Semantic similarity between correlates and synonyms is observed at the level of abstraction which is higher than the level of synonymy.
