English speech culture as a target component of English teacher activities

The study deals with English speech culture development in high school students. The paper reviews the theoretical approaches to the interpretation of foreign language culture. The application of the term ‘English-speaking culture’ is analyzed, since the understanding of this concept is necessary for modern teaching practice. The author reveals similarities and differences in the terms ‘communication culture’, ‘speech culture’, and ‘language culture’. These concepts are commonly used in textbooks and teacher training materials. The research focuses on the theoretically basic components of the English speech culture, including motivational and axiological, cognitive and intellectual, and behavioral components. In conclusion, the nine-element model is proposed. It shows the level of English speech culture development in ninth grade students. The content of nine components of the English speech culture model is presented.
