Animalistic genre in arts and its presentation in the monograph

The book displays the issues of the native animalistic painting within the period of XVIII and the first half of the twentieth century, when the stylistic traditions of the Russian art have already been established. It reveals the origins of the genre, its development, focuses on the role of foreign artists in animal painting, as well as tells about the first animal painters group in the Academy of Arts. The specific features of odditorium patterns, equestrian portraits, paintings with hunting, wild and domestic animals as subjects in different art forms are given. Animalistic genre associated with the issue of man-to-nature relationship is presented in the interrelation of cognitive, aesthetic and ethical aspects, that allows to identify the particular ideology, the creative method, painters’ ideas flexibility. This enables to appreciate the significance of the genre in the national art.
