Abstract as a genre of scientific discourse

The article focuses on the analysis of the scientific abstract as a genre of scientific discourse. The works that investigate the genre of the scientific abstract are reviewed. The notion of the scientific abstract is defined, functions of the scientific abstract are listed. The problems of text-discourse correlation and discourse typology are touched upon. A brief characteristic of the scientific discourse is presented, different approaches to the genre of scientific discourse are analyzed. General linguistic-stylistic features of the scientific abstract are singled out. As a result, the research prospects are outlined.
