The article is devoted to the reception of Platonic philosophy in the intellectual tradition of the 9th century. The phenomenon of the Carolingian Renaissance is usually defined as the restoration of ancient cultural models, which led to the development of education (septem artes liberales - trivium and quadrivium). Doubts about some provisions of Augustinian doctrine became the cause of discussions among intellectuals of the Carolingian Renaissance; in these discussions three aspects of Christian theology were considered: the Eucharist, trina deitas and praedestinatio. Intellectuals of the 9th century came into contact with the world of classical philosophy through the works of ancient and early Christian authors. Some ideas of representatives of ancient philosophy, in the form of small fragments, retellings and quotations, influenced the intellectual culture of subsequent centuries. Their transformation during the period of patristics legitimized the appeal to them and the use of them during the Middle Ages. This is also true for the Carolingian Renaissance, when Christian thinkers began to turn to the best achievements of ancient thought. Among the teachings that influenced the spiritual and intellectual life of the 9th century was Platonism.
