Anton Vladimirovich Kartashev: childhood and years of study at the Perm Theological Seminary (1875-1895)

The article is devoted to the formative years of A. V. Kartashev, which include the study of data on the origin of the family and the status of the parents of the future Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod. Special attention is paid to the perception of education as an absolute value in the Kartashev family. Data on the time of A. V. Kartashev’s study at the theological school and seminary are reconstructed based on the materials of the office documents of the relevant educational institutions, as well as with the help of data identified in personal sources. The historical background of the training of the church historian in the aforementioned educational institutions is reconstructed: the state of spiritual education, the peculiarities of the life of a particular educational institution, the intellectual and educational environment are traced. The author concludes that the years of study and the family atmosphere had a colossal impact on the worldview and psychology of A. V. Kartashev, laid the foundation for his scientific interests, aspirations for church service.
