Hillforts of the D'yakovo type: the area of the culture

The paper describes the area occupied by the D'yakovo archaeologicalculture of the forest belt, which dates to the Iron Age, with the use of a synchronousapproach. The hillfort database has been developed on the basis of the archaeologicalmap of Russia and the Archaeological Information System (AIS) 'Archaeological Sitesof Russia'. Comparison with the results from the previous studies helped identify areasattributed to the D'yakovo culture with fair confidence as well as those areas that stillrequire cultural attribution. The density analysis revealed the area with the highestconcentration of hillforts and identified the so-called local centers of the culture.
