The article examines the archetypes and archetypal images of pre-Islamic and Islamic mythology, reflected in the traditional culture of the Bashkir people, as a source of knowledge of the existence of myth in the socio-cultural space of this people. Under archetypes, cultural universals are considered, reflecting the logical construction and transformation of a basic concept in the consciousness of a person as a representative of a particular society. Archetypal images are explored by the authors through mythological images accumulating archetypes (as a centuries-old cultural experience allowing for variation, but at the same time recognizable and intuitively reproduced in works of art). The paper offers the author’s view of Islamic myths by identifying mythology as a special form of understanding the existence of the past and present. The main focus is on the study of mythology, represented in the traditional culture of the Bashkir people. The following were analyzed: the archetype and archetypal images of the Thunder God (since he is the closest to the image of Allah in the Islamic faith), as well as the archetype and archetypal images of death. This analysis made it possible to identify the archetypal line of development of Islamic mythology, the main lines of development of the main mythological and religious concepts. The innovative nature of the article’s topic lies in the fact that the authors cover in detail the nature of the archetypal images of the Islamic traditional culture of the Bashkir people, which has so far been little studied in the scientific literature.
