The paper analyzes the results of a comprehensive sociological study, which included ethnographic observation, focus group interviews and surveys and was intended to study the certification system of personnel in the service sector (“Shokoladnitsa” coffee house, Yakutsk, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)). The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the fact that certification in the field in question, especially in corporate restaurants, is often based on strict guidelines, but rapid changes in this segment require the use of non-traditional methods of business valuation. The study revealed the effective and ineffective types of behavior of the line staff of the enterprise. Based on the analysis of simulations of interaction between the certification commission and certified employees, it was determined what new evaluation techniques can be used in the certification process. Surveys have shown that institution’s employees consider certification as an incentive to career growth, an important step in improving professional and personal characteristics.
