Autographs left by the scribes / icon-painters of posadnik Ostromir in the cathedral of St. Sophia in Novgorod

The paper deals with two autographs made by the scribes of a renownedposadnik from Novgorod called Ostromir, which were identified on the walls ofthe Cathedral of St. Sophia in Novgorod. The paper provides several reconstructed versionsof the name of the scribe who left his autograph in the cathedral sacristy; a drawing ofthe initial letter of the second autograph is published. The comparison of the materialsuggests that during the Posadnik Ostromir rule (1156-1160) a scriptorium was beingcreated at the Novgorod Cathedral.
